It all started on the living room floor.

I was so stressed out and exhausted from my corporate job that I could barely pour my wine into my mouth.

Saul and I had just started dating and he – who was way more into fitness than I was – pulled out a yoga DVD and said, “You should try this.”

Back then I could barely reach down and touch my toes, but I decided to give it a try.

I stretched and struggled through the moves and when I opened my eyes – after my very first savasana – I felt SO much better than when I began. I was totally relaxed and my stress had melted away.

It was incredible. That was my first time.

Fast forward thirteen years. Yoga has become such a huge and important part of my life. It brings me peace and clarity – both on and off my mat – every day.

And I’ve grown tremendously in so many ways – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually!

Next month I’ll be starting another first…yoga teacher training. As I gear up for this year-long program – equally terrified and excited (as it is with most new adventures) – I can’t help but think about how far I’ve come from where I started.

Yoga was hard at first and I didn’t know what I was doing, but I tried and I kept at it. As a result, I’ve gained SO much…flexibility, strength and balance – not just in the asanas – but in how I live life.

It’s a good reminder that things are always difficult in the beginning and you only get better by getting started.

Real transformation happens when you stretch and struggle to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and into something new.

So let me ask you…

When was the last time YOU did something for the first time?

Whether it’s starting a business, throwing a plant-based dinner party or stumbling through a simple yoga DVD…I’d love to hear all about it in the comments.

If you don’t remember (don’t worry, most of us can’t), now is the perfect time to think about the things you’ve been wanting to do, try or change, and then decide how you can take the first step!

I know firsts can be scary and challenging, but more often than not they’re simply the start of something truly amazing.

So, today I challenge you to not let your thoughts (or fears) limit what you’re capable of doing or sabotage you before you even get started. Muster up the courage to push them aside and simply get going! 🙂
