The Mindset Shift

My whole family is overweight.

I have bad genes.

My metabolism is slow.

I’m too busy.

I have kids.

I can’t give up French fries.

This wont work for me because {insert your excuse}.

Yeah Vicki, you don’t understand, {insert your thing} is happening/not happening because of {insert your excuse} that’s not within my control.

I hear you. And there’s no doubt that things like genetics, age, gender, income, stress levels, mental and emotional triggers, physical limitations and extenuating circumstances play a factor in why you’ve gained weight and why you struggle to lose it.

BUT – and this is what every person who builds healthy habits and sticks with them knows – regardless of why and how you got where you are, it’s 100% within your control to change directions and pave a different path.

The only difference between the people that do and the people that don’t is personal responsibility.

Those who succeed understand and accept that – even when things happen that aren’t their fault – they’re fully in charge of what they do (or don’t do) next.

If you want to lose weight, reprogram your genes, speed up your metabolism, carve out time, hire a babysitter, skip the French fries, make it work and throw out the excuses you’ve been relying on to let yourself off the hook, YOU CAN!

In fact, you’re the only one who can guarantee yourself the results you want.

So, TODAY decide that your excuses are moot – and every time you catch yourself getting caught up in an excuse that’s about to sabotage your success, ask yourself “SO WHAT?”

So what can I do?

So what would a healthy person eat/do?

So what will make this work for me?

So what IS in my control?

Then do that thing.

And if you need a little support or encouragement leave your response to this question in the comments below.

So what are you going to do differently this year to reach your weight loss (and/or health) goals?

Yes, you!

You’ve got this. I know you do. And now’s the time! No more excuses.

P.S. And remember this: there are busier, older, heavier, poorer and more injured people than you getting in shape right now! If they can do it, so can you.
